The Green Holiday
One of the most celebrated holidays in the world is Saint Patrick’s Day. This holiday is celebrated during March but preparations are made as early as January. Though this feast day is named after an Irish saint, many countries celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day for different reasons. In the United States, this holiday is celebrated by large parades, decorating homes with Green Mini Lights, wearing green clothes and even using green vegetable dye in fountains and canals. There is more than a dozen of states in the US that have been holding huge parades since the early 1800′s and more states are adding up to the list each year.
Boston, Massachusetts is the city with the earliest record of holding parades during Saint Patrick’s Day. Arguably, it is the city where the holiday is most popular and celebrated. A team of a premier basketball league in the United States that represents the city of Boston also uses the color green and the plant shamrock it their players’ uniform. The shamrock is said to be used by Saint Patrick in spreading Christianity to the early people in Ireland.
Saint Patrick’s Day is one of the most anticipated holidays around the world. More than just celebrating a patron saint, Saint Patrick’s Day has become a symbol and celebration of many good things.
